Please read these Terms of Use ("Terms") before using Merit ("the App"). By downloading or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

1. What Merit is

Merit is an independent, unofficial client that lets a student view their own Schoology (and optionally PowerSchool) information — grades, assignments, schedule, and course materials — in a single app. Merit is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Schoology, PowerSchool, or any school or school district. All trademarks are the property of their owners.

2. Your account and eligibility

• You must have a valid Schoology account issued by your school and the right to access it. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
• You agree to use the App only to access your own account and data, and in compliance with your school's acceptable-use policies and Schoology's/ PowerSchool's terms of service.
• If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you should use the App with the awareness and, where required, consent of a parent, guardian, or your school.

3. Credentials and data

Your credentials are stored only on your device and are transmitted only to Schoology/PowerSchool to log you in, as described in the Privacy Policy. You are responsible for the accuracy of the credentials you enter.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to: (a) use the App to access accounts or data that are not yours; (b) reverse engineer, resell, or misrepresent the App; (c) use the App to violate any law or the rights of others; or (d) attempt to disrupt or overload Schoology, PowerSchool, or the App's feedback backend.

5. Availability and accuracy

The App displays information retrieved from Schoology/PowerSchool. That information may be delayed, incomplete, or unavailable (for example, if those services change, are down, or restrict access). Merit is provided for convenience and does not replace the official Schoology/PowerSchool records. Always rely on your school's official systems for authoritative grades and deadlines.

6. Disclaimer of warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT DISPLAYED DATA IS ACCURATE OR CURRENT.

7. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, Chen Ye Gan WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, GRADES, OPPORTUNITIES, OR ACADEMIC OUTCOMES, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE APP.

8. Changes

We may update the App and these Terms. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms. Material changes will be reflected by the "Effective date" above.

9. Termination

You may stop using the App at any time by signing out and deleting it. We may discontinue the App or any feature at any time.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.

11. Apple-specific terms (App Store)

These Terms are between you and Chen Ye Gan only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/) also applies to the extent it does not conflict with these Terms.
